Thirteen UPrep Students Participate in VIKMUN

Thirteen University Prep students from grades 9-12 participated in the Viking Model United Nations (VIKMUN) this past weekend at Western Washington University in Bellingham. The model UN is put on by the university's International Affairs Association, a student-run organization affiliated with the political science department. Approximately forty students from around the Puget Sound took part in the two-day session. The annual conference geared to high school students is designed to foster the growth of future leaders.

UPrep's Model UN club, advised by history teacher Pat Grant, prepares for the conference throughout the year during its weekly lunch meetings. For VIKMUN, each student becomes a representative for a country and writes a position paper in advance. During the Model UN, students--who must wear businesz attire--debate and come up with resolutions, following a special style of parliamentary procedure. Awards are given, and junior Allison Bunker received a Distinguished Delegate award. Congratulations to her and to all participants!
