UPrep Sends Large Contingent to PoCC and SDLC

University Prep is sending a contingent of 22 faculty and staff to the 2017 People of Color Conference and the Student Diversity Leadership Conference, the National Association of Independent Schools' flagship meetings dedicated to equity and justice in teaching and learning, which are being held in Anaheim, CA this year from November 30-December 2. Pedro Cordoba, UPrep's Associated Director of Diversity and Community Pedro Cordoba, is on the SDLC faculty this year, and six Upper School students (the maximum allowed for one school) will attend that conference.

In addition, Head of School Matt Levinson will attend PoCC, along with the following teachers, staff, and administration members: Mark Smith, E-chieh Lin, Carl Faucher, Alyssa Reyes, Ray Yang, Meg Anderson-Johnston, Moses Rifkin, Sarah Peterson, Shavette McGhee, Alana Kaholokula, Meleesa Wyatt, Britten Nelson, and Kathy O'Neal. Mark Horn, a trustee who chairs the Board Diversity and Community Committee, will also be present at the conference. The Puma Fund helps University Prep support such a large delegation, and we are grateful to our community of donors.

The students will, for the second year, also have the opportunity to tour some colleges located near the conference. On November 29, they will visit Chapman University and the Claremont Colleges.
