UPrep's Black Student Union Hosts MLK Assembly
The members of University Prep's Black Student Union, which is in its first year at the school, designed, produced and presented the Martin Luther King, Jr. all-school assembly in the Pumadome today. BSU spokespeople introduced the assembly to honor Dr. King as a fitting first public act for their new union. The students had asked community members to share what Dr. King's message meant to them, and the contributors took turns reading their remarks. A video of African American women from the school community reading Maya Angelou's poem "Still I Rise" was shown, and the assembly concluded with BSU students and allies singing "Lift Every Voice and Sing."
