Student LifeAt University Prep, students enjoy myriad opportunities to expand horizons and forge the incredible friendships that link our graduates together throughout their lives. The school day begins at 8 a.m. and finishes at 2:50 p.m., but woven within and around that busy schedule, life outside of class mirrors the same energy and excitement found in our classes: teachers, students, and often parents talking, working, playing, learning and laughing together. Middle School students’ days are structured, but we acknowledge the importance of these informal interactions by accommodating many of them into the daily schedule. Students in the Upper School enjoy more latitude with an open-campus policy for lunch and more flexibility within their daily schedules to pursue their individual interests and talents. It’s all there, and our students take full advantage of it. Students can join a simulated law firm for Mock Trial competition, or hone an aggressive attack at a chess tournament. They can take a lunch meeting with HPEC, our student-run harassment prevention and education committee, or play basketball, paint a mural, help restore a wetland, or run for student government. They jam to the sounds of a rock band, play with a string ensemble, and talk with friends. Some even explore the Pacific Coast Trail with their English teacher and discover Asian cuisine with their earth science teacher. |
