Student Services

Personal Advisors
Students meet frequently and regularly in groups with their personal advisors. The program enables each student to have an adult advocate in the school, a person who can champion the advisee's cause in student-teacher, student-administrator, and student-student interactions. Personal advisors help in communicating with the student's parents with regard to interim grade reports and other issues.

Class Advisors
Faculty and staff members serve as advisors to each grade level and help students plan social events, class projects and fund-raising activities. Class meetings are held regularly throughout the school year.

Office of Intercultural Affairs
The office supports students interested in international opportunities and provides in-school experiences to expose students to world cultures and peoples, as well as to build intercultural capacity.

Student Counseling Program
The University Prep counseling program is available to all students and is staffed by mental health professionals. Its purpose is to provide students with emotional support, advocacy, and community referral sources within a confidential setting.

Language Training
Language training helps students cope with difficulties incurred by specific language disabilities, such as dyslexia. Students succeed by improving their reading, spelling, penmanship, writing, and vocabulary through the individualized, one-on-one Orton-Gillingham approach. An extra fee is required for this program.

Learning Resource Services
The learning resource coordinator advocates for students with disabilities, manages accommodations for them, supports teachers in their efforts to reach students with diverse learning styles, and helps parents understand their children’s learning styles.
