University Prep values geographic diversity and intentionally enrolls students who live throughout King and Snohomish Counties. There are many ways for our students to commute to school, from buses and the light rail to carpools and bikes.
UPrep partners with Lakeside School to offer custom Metro bus routes to and from UPrep for our students. The custom Metro bus pass (Orca card) purchased from UPrep is a two-zone card, good for a student’s custom Metro route and for regular Metro, Community Transit, and Sound Transit (Link Light Rail) transportation.
The Custom Metro Bus program serves the following neighborhoods (routes must meet minimum ridership levels to continue each year):
Route 982: Evergreen Pt., Yarrow Pt., Clyde Hill, Overlake, Bear Creek
Route 986: Montlake, Evergreen Pt., Yarrow Pt., S. Kirkland, Houghton
Route 987: Roosevelt Light Rail Station, Mount Baker, Seward Park, Rainier Beach
Route 988: UW Light Rail Station, Montlake, Madison Valley, Miller Park, Madrona
Route 989: Mercer Island, Eastgate, Somerset, Factoria
UPrep is also conveniently located close to several regular Metro bus routes, including the 372, 65, and 62. Beginning October 2021, the new Metro route 79 will provide a direct connection to the Roosevelt Light Rail Station.
UPrep provides limited free on-campus parking, including spaces in a designated lot for Upper School students on a first come, first served basis. There is also ample street parking in the surrounding neighborhood.
Many UPrep students who live in the neighborhood choose to bicycle to campus. UPrep provides secure bicycle rack parking. A bicycle repair station with tools and an air pump is available for students next to the bicycle rack.
UPrep's 5:30 p.m. Activity Bus connects students who stay on campus after school for athletic practices and games to mass transit options including the Link Light Rail, Montlake Interchange (for bus service to the eastside), and other drop-offs in several central neighborhood locations.
The Activity Bus is driven by a full-time UPrep employee and leaves from campus at 5:30 p.m. daily during the fall, winter, and spring athletic seasons.
This service is open to any UPrep student and is included in the cost of a Custom Metro Bus pass, or for a small additional fee if the student elects not to purchase this pass.
