Music
Music is now an integral part of who I am, and the UPrep community helped me discover this passion. Back in 6th grade, I never would have guessed that I would one day perform in New Orleans, the heart of jazz. I’m excited to see where my passion for music takes me.” –Recent UPrep graduate

UPrep's celebration of music starts in the sixth grade with Orchestra & Band I and continues to high levels of jazz, vocal, and orchestral performance in Upper School. Our Music faculty work to present engaging, thematic concerts in which new musicians frequently perform alongside more advanced students—creating a sense of progression and connection across the school’s musical community.
Students are the instrumentalists and singers for our school musicals, perform at events on campus and at venues throughout the city, travel out of state for festivals, and engage in regional and state solo and ensemble competitions. Our goal is to train independent and knowledgeable musicians.
Many Pumas continue their musical journeys post-UPrep. Recent graduates have attended the Eastman School of Music, the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, and the Conservatory of Music at Lawrence University, and have performed with the UW and Seattle Symphonies.
