In Honor of Women's History Month, Thanks to Our Founders

In honor of women’s history month, I want to acknowledge the extraordinary leadership of two of our founders who serve on our Board of Trustees.

Matt Levinson, Head of School

In honor of women’s history month, I want to acknowledge the extraordinary leadership of two of our founders who serve on our Board of Trustees. Terry Froggatt and Pat Landy have served University Prep since 1975 when the first ideas for the school started to percolate and crystallize into the University Prep we know today.

If you have not yet had a chance to meet Terry or Pat, I hope that you will have a chance to talk with them at some point about the origin story of the school. They still tell the story of the beginnings of the school with the same unbridled enthusiasm that inspired them to found a school where students would “run with their minds.” The genesis of University Prep grew out of a reduction in force that hit the public schools where Pat and Terry taught. With their typical can do spirit, along with five other extraordinary educators, they took the mindset that a crisis is a terrible thing to waste so they turned the problem into an opportunity to expand the educational opportunities for students in Seattle. Pat shares: “Everything we did was focused on opening a school that would offer an academic program built on the best educational practices and theories of the time.”

This ethos remains true today and informs our approach to all of our academic initiatives, from the adoption of our new daily schedule to intensives.

Perhaps the most striking quality of both Pat and Terry is their indefatigable commitment to creating and sustaining a school where students reside at the center. Their work on the board of University Prep helps all of us maintain this critical focus as we continue to evolve and grow as a school community.

Thank you, Pat and Terry!
