We are an intentionally diverse and inclusive community, and we are committed to social justice. At all levels and in all areas, we examine our practices to ensure access, inclusion, and equity in our students’ educational experience.
Here are some of the ways in which we demonstrate our commitment:
- Including our students in the consideration of new courses to ensure they are mission aligned. Our students present to our faculty at meetings, sit on panels with teachers, and work with us in the evolution of our program.
- Challenging our students to engage in courageous community conversations around contemporary social and political issues.
- Engaging with the larger Seattle community in our community service program that focuses on building long-term relationships.
- Devoting a full day each year to Social Justice, which the whole school spends learning about issues and topics related to race, ethnicity, gender, and equality.
We support our faculty to grow and develop in their understanding of cultural competency through our SEED (Seeking Educational Equity and Diversity) program, and regular professional development time devoted to this purpose.
Our senior administrative leadership team and our Board of Trustees work with a nationally recognized leader on diversity initiatives in schools to deepen our understanding of cultural competency and organizational leadership.
