UPrep Sends Delegation of 21 to NAIS Conferences
As part of its commitment to inclusion, University Prep is sending a total of 15 adults to the National Association of Independent Schools People of Color Conference and 6 students to the parallel Student Diversity Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee this week. Thanks to the many generous donors to the Puma Fund, UPrep is able to support such a significant attendance. While six is the maximum number of students any school can send given space limitations, faculty from seven departments are going to PoCC, along with staff from the Diversity and Community and Global Programs offices.
The PoCC theme this year is "Equitable Schools and Inclusive Communities: Harmony, Discord and the Notes in Between," while SDLC's is "Listening for the Grace Note: Finding Harmony Amid Cacophony." This marks the 25th anniversary of SDLC, which focuses on developing cross cultural communications skills, effective strategies for social justice, and learning the basics of networking and allyship.
Prior to the start of the conference, our six student participants will have the opportunity to visit the Fisk University campus. Upon their return, they will use what they have learned at the conference to create workshops for Social Justice Day on March 12, 2019.
