UPrep Teacher Wins Teaching Tolerance Grant

University Prep Physics teacher Moses Rifkin was just awarded a Teaching Tolerance educator grant for the Underrepresentation Curriculum Project as part of a team of eight teachers from across the nation. In 2018, the group of teachers created a freely available curriculum to help STEM students and teachers explore identity, equity, and privilege through STEM. They then applied for this grant to help expand the utility and reach of the curriculum. As Rifkin, who has long been involved in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work at UPrep, states: "The curriculum will help STEM teachers facilitate courageous conversations and foster identity development, creating more inclusive and transformational classrooms." Rifkin has been teaching this curriculum for 13 years in his classes, and received strong positive feedback from his students. "This grant enhances the work that we are implementing with our Diversity Strategic Plan. The more we share our learning and experience, the more beneficial it is for our society," says Director of Diversity and Community E-chieh Lin.
